Welcome to the Yale Club of Houston

From the President...

Welcome to the Yale Club of Houston:

I am excited to serve as the Yale Club of Houston president this year and I am looking forward to working with the leadership team to bring you wonderful programs and special events in the 2017-18 season

The Yale Club serves as the Houston chapter of Association of Yale Alumni (AYA). It is also a club, where Yale alums and parents of students have membership, gather at social, educational, and service events, and reconnect with each other in a friendly atmosphere.

Part of the mission is to provide events wherein alums can gather to reminisce and to plan their future in conjunction with other alums. The club has other roles, which include interviewing high school seniors applying to Yale College, hosting students who would like to intern in Houston during the summer, networking, and meeting with other subgroups of alums in Houston. I have found that Yale alums are not only smart, capable people, but also very good friends.

The strength of the club in the past has been its strong lineup of events, and I believe this year will be no different. We recently concluded a summer with five summer interns from Yale College. Alums were invited to meet them at various socials, including the Annual Gumbo Dinner and an informal tennis tournament at the Houston Racquet Club. This fall, we will have a kick-off wine tasting party in September or October, and a meeting in October with speakers from Noble, for those interested in business (i.e. energy business). And, the annual football game vs Harvard on close circuit TV at the Forest Club the weekend before Thanksgiving.

Please visit the Yale Club's website at http://www.yaleclubofhouston.org to view our upcoming events, and to Join or Renew your Yale Club Membership. Membership is important, since it enables the Club to function, even if all the events are not money-makers for the Club. Your membership helps support the Yale Bulldogs Program, which brings summer interns to Houston and pays for the Club’s administration. Even if you are not a club member, please visit our events and meet other alums, whenever you get the gumption to try us out!

Finally, David Kim and Leah Barton serve as co-chairs of the Alumni Schools Committee (ASC) if you are interested in interviewing candidates for Yale College. You may visit the Yale Club of Houston website and click under “Get involved” to access their email link.
