Greetings Yale Alumni,

Yale Club of Houston (Lil' Elis) is registered to volunteer at the Houston Food Bank warehouse on Saturday, March 2nd from 8 to 12 noon.  Please note that we have a Yale group registered but each individual (including children) must first register as a Houston Food Bank volunteer at REGISTRATION.  Once you have registered, please email houston@yalenonprofitalliance.org with your name and number of people in your party.

You can sign up at the link below, and email us at YaleHouston@gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns.

Volunteer support in our city is critical so please open your hearts and show the Yale Alumni spirit by participating!  Our club reserved 15 spaces of which 10 are for youth and 5 are for adults (but there is no limit of the number of volunteer attendees - they are flexible.).

HERE to register.  The link will take you directly to the Houston Food Bank website event page.  If you are already registered as a volunteer, there is a link where you can login.  There is also a link for new volunteers on the same page.

 Additional details are below:

Volunteer support is critical to our mission of leading the fight against hunger! The Houston Food Bank utilizes volunteers six days a week at our Main Warehouse. Whether you come out as an individual or part of a group, we are certain you will have an enjoyable, positive experience.

• Volunteers MUST be at least 6 years old and supervised by parent or guardian throughout the shift.
• All volunteers under the age of 18 also need a completed Youth Volunteer Consent Form signed by a parent or guardian. A copy of this form can be downloaded by clicking the RESOURCES tab on your Volunteer Profile page.
• Please plan to arrive at least fifteen minutes before your scheduled volunteer shift so you can check in, receive instructions and start on time.
If you arrive after the start of your shift, you may have to wait up to 30 minutes for orientation and assignment. If members of your group arrive late, we cannot guarantee they will be able to join you in your assigned project area.

Description of Duties Varies with the makeup volunteers for shift. Most of the projects at the warehouse involve inspection, sorting, and repackaging of donated food items for community distribution.
Address 535 Portwall St. Houston, TX. 77029

Directions From Downtown: Take IH-10 east and exit Gellhorn St. (exit #774). Make a U-turn at Gellhorn, stay on feeder and turn right on Portwall St.

Attire Information How to Dress?
Closed-toe shoes REQUIRED - smashed toes are no fun, so we strongly enforce this safety precaution. Casual dress, long pants (preferred), t-shirt with sleeves. Media Reminders:
If you are planning to take any video footage, wish to have a Food Bank spokesperson available for interviews or want to share your volunteer experience with the media, please obtain the approval of the director of Communications, Adele Brady, at 713-547-8674 at least 2 weeks prior to your volunteer session.

Special needs? Just let us know: If you require any special accommodations just let us know before your volunteer shift so we can plan accordingly.

For your safety, personal belongings are not allowed in project areas: Due to limited locker space, we ask that you lock your purse, jackets, backpacks and any other valuables in your vehicle before checking-in. Remember to wear close-toed shoes so your feet are protected and dress in layers so you will be comfortable throughout your shift.
If you are scheduled for our Kids Café (Kitchen), please wear LONG PANTS - NO SHORTS or JEWELRY allowed.

HELP SPREAD HOLIDAY CHEER! Order holiday cards from Houston Food Bank and spread holiday cheer while providing hope to thousands in our area. This is a great way for families, companies and organizations to support the Food Bank this winter. You can also help again by making a donation online. For every $1 donated, the Houston Food Bank is able to provide a full day's meals to someone in need.

Thank you again for leading the fight against hunger. You truly make a difference and we appreciate your time and support!
