Wetlands Restoration at the Baytown Nature Center
Trail Cleanup at the Houston Arboretum
Saturday, May 12, 2012

Our fourth annual Yale Day of Service falls on Saturday, May 12 2012.  To learn more about YDOS around the world, visit the Yale Day of Service website.

Last year, nearly 100 Houston-area Yale alumni, parents, family members, and community members made an impact at Klentzman Intermediate School and in Galveston Bay.

This year, we have two terrific service opportunities:

1) Marsh Mania

   Date and Time: Sat, 05/12/2012 - 9:00am - 1:00pm

Baytown Nature Center
6213 Bayway Drive
Baytown, TX

Web site: http://www.baytownnaturecenter.orghttp://galvbay.org/events_marsh.html

Marsh Mania is back!  Sponsored by alum Bob Stokes of the Galveston Bay Foundation, we'll have a chance to participate in hands-on wetlands restoration activities while increasing our awareness and appreciation of coastal habitats.  This year, we'll be planting cordgrass at the Baytown Nature Center just off I-10, about 30 minutes east of downtown.

Please wear clothing that can get wet and muddy; water resistant clothing, bathing suits, shorts, and t-shirts would all be suitable dress. Jeans are not recommended.  All volunteers must have closed-toe, snug-fitting footwear such as old tie-up tennis shoes or wading booties. Rain boots are not recommended. Please remember to bring a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, sunglasses, and a reusable water bottle. It is always helpful to have a towel and change of clothes.

GBF's Marsh Mania is the nationally-recognized, signature community-based wetlands restoration and education event of the Galveston Bay area. In its thirteen years, Marsh Mania has involved more than 6,381 community volunteers in the restoration of over 195 acres of vital salt marsh habitat at 69 sites around Galveston Bay.
