Discover the Houston Ship Channel

Get ready for a spectacular waterborne tour of one of the busiest ports in the world aboard the Port of Houston Authority's MV Sam Houston.  This 90 minute round-trip tour will reveal the inner workings of the Houston Ship Channel.  Embarking from the port's Sam Houston Pavilion, we'll enjoy views of international cargo vessels and operations at the port's Turning Basin Terminal.

Additional details:

To drive to the departure area:  Leave East Loop 610 at Clinton Drive (exit # 28). Proceed west (right) on Clinton, pass McCarty to Gate 8. Enter Gate 8 and stay to the right. A security guard and signs will direct you to the pavilion.


Passengers are advised to arrive at least 15 to 30 minutes before their tour launches to ensure adequate time for check-in.

Parking at the Sam Houston Pavilion is free.  Ample spaces are available for personal vehicles.

All passengers must have a reservation in advance.  Passengers age 18 and older must present a valid, government-issued photo identification before boarding the vessel.  Acceptable forms of identification include:

  • State issued Driver’s License or temporary (with photo printed on the form)
  • State issued Identification Card
  • Passport


Passengers may not bring food or beverages into the pavilion or aboard the vessel.  One free beverage per passenger is offered on the vessel during the tour.
